Recruiting in cybersecurity in Switzerland: the tightest market we know.
Close to 900 security job ads are published every month in Switzerland, for a few hundred genuinely qualified people, almost all of them employed. Implecio recruits the security engineers, managers and specialists that advertising does not bring: by direct approach, in confidence, led by a partner.
Why cybersecurity is recruited differently
An employed security engineer receives several approaches a week, almost all interchangeable. They no longer answer job ads and no longer read generic messages. What still works: a personal, technically credible approach that talks about the real scope of the role, the stack, the team and what the person will learn there.
Implecio recruits in cybersecurity for banks, industrial groups, international organisations and service companies in Switzerland. We know where the craft is really practised: at integrators and MSSPs, at operators, in the security teams of the large banks, and increasingly in industry, where OT security has become a board-level subject.
The security profiles we recruit
- CISOs and heads of information security, including fractional roles for mid-sized organisations.
- Security engineers and architects: network and perimeter (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Cisco), cloud and identity, Zero Trust, application security.
- SOC and incident response: analysts, incident responders, threat hunters, detection engineers.
- GRC and compliance: ISO 27001, FINMA, Swiss data protection act, DORA, NIS2 for groups exposed to the European Union.
- Penetration testing and red team, with the distinction between confirmed pentesters and generalist profiles that matters so much on this market.
- OT and industrial security: segmentation, IEC 62443, IT/OT convergence on production sites.
How we run a cybersecurity search
- A technical brief, validated with you: which stack, which real responsibilities, which certifications really matter and which are decorative.
- A named market map in one week, across Switzerland and the neighbouring countries when the local pool is not deep enough.
- A direct approach written for engineers: concrete, precise, no sales jargon. No advertising, no name circulating without consent.
- Serious technical qualification before any presentation: we talk about the real work, the incidents handled, the architectures designed, never a questionnaire.
- Negotiation, counter-offer management, which is the rule in security, and onboarding followed beyond the probation period.
What the market teaches us
On a recent search for a network and security engineer for a Swiss industrial group, fewer than one person approached in fourteen was both qualified and open to a conversation. That ratio is the market, not the mandate: 338 profiles assessed, 166 approached by name, 12 qualified in interview, 8 presented, one person hired after the scope was widened to Italy. We give you these figures at every stage; they let you decide with full knowledge.
- Private banking · GenevaHead of Database Administration, confidential mandate. Unadvertised role; mapping of the banking and technology pool, name-by-name direct approach, short shortlist presented.
- Cybersecurity · SwitzerlandHard-to-find specialist, a few dozen comparable profiles in the country. Market mapping, direct approach without advertising, references before any presentation.
- Financial Services · GenevaFront Office Business Analyst. Brief built with business and IT teams, compensation tested against the market, search run by a partner through to the start date.
- Industry · German-speaking SwitzerlandSeven positions opened at once by a single manufacturer, seven distinct technical scopes (cybersecurity, infrastructure, SAP, among others). Searches run in parallel on a tight timeline, several appointments made.
- Watchmaking · GenevaIT business continuity project manager and disaster recovery (DRP) expert for a watch manufacture. Strictly local profiles required, in an already narrow market: direct and confidential approach within the Geneva basin, references before presentation.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to recruit a cybersecurity profile in Switzerland?
One week from brief to shortlist, two at most when a second sourcing round is needed. The full process, from brief to signed offer, client interviews included, usually takes eight to twelve weeks. The timeline depends above all on how the role is calibrated: a scope that is too wide or compensation below the market lengthens the search more than scarcity itself.
Which certifications do you require from candidates?
The ones the role really requires. CISSP, OSCP, CCIE Security or NSE are useful indicators, not filters. We assess the work done: architectures deployed, incidents handled, programmes built. Many excellent profiles in Switzerland do not hold the expected certification and many certified profiles have never handled an incident.
Do you recruit cross-border or foreign profiles?
Yes, and it is often necessary. The Swiss cybersecurity pool is too small for some roles. We know what makes an engineer based in Lyon, Milan, Munich or Lisbon accept, or decline, a role in Switzerland, and we build this in from the brief.
How is this different from an MSSP or a service company?
A service provider rents you a skill. We recruit the person who joins your team, with the commitment and confidentiality that implies. The two approaches are complementary; we will tell you frankly if your need is better served by a provider than by a hire.
Our ad for a security role gets nothing. Can you tell us why?
Yes, free of charge. SearchCheck analyses your job ad in one minute and tells you what is blocking: title, requirements, compensation, market. In cybersecurity the problem is almost always a scope too wide for one person, or a title that does not match the market vocabulary.
A security role open for too long?
