Cybersecurity in Switzerland: fewer job ads, no less tension.
Vacancy volumes are falling while pay for experienced profiles keeps rising. A reading of a market tightening from the top.

A market contracting in volume
The Adecco Group Swiss Job Market Index records a 2.4% drop in vacancies between the first and second quarters of 2026, with unemployment back at 3% in May. Latin Switzerland fell slightly more than the German-speaking regions (−2% versus −1% year on year). Commercial and economics profiles saw the sharpest declines (−13% and −10%).
Against that backdrop, graduate IT professions are one of the few families still growing (+6% year on year). The general decline in advertising does not touch qualified technical roles: it concentrates demand on them.
Pay that does not follow the cycle
Robert Half’s study published in October 2025 puts a cybersecurity specialist at around CHF 147,000 in Switzerland, an IT project manager in consulting near CHF 160,000, and CSO or CIO roles above CHF 225,000. The same firm’s 2026 guide gives a Security Specialist range of CHF 129,000 to 184,000 in Geneva, against CHF 124,000 to 177,000 in Zurich.
The important signal is not the level but the gap: the same role pays about 4% more in Geneva, in a region where advertising is falling faster. That is the signature of a local pool too narrow for demand, not of demand expanding.

What these figures describe, we see on the ground: cybersecurity in Switzerland is no longer hired through advertising. Experienced profiles are not looking; they let themselves be approached, and they compare. A CHF 55,000 spread within a single role is not statistical noise, it is the distance between an available profile and a rare one.
For roles where the country holds a few dozen comparable profiles, the useful question is not “how much to pay” but “who exists, where, and what would make them move”. The map comes before the offer.
What it means if you are hiring
- A cybersecurity position open for more than three months is rarely a sourcing problem: it is a positioning problem (scope too wide, salary set at the median, language or on-site requirements too strict).
- The Geneva premium is real but modest (about 4%): a Zurich candidate does not relocate for it. The levers are the substance of the role and the speed of decision, not the pay grid.
- Fewer ads mean less noise: companies hiring now face less competition for the same profiles than a year ago. A favourable window for well-framed mandates.
